Sharon’s ancestors arrived in South Africa with the 1820 British Settlers and she was brought up in the Eastern Cape. Adin’s family came from the Netherlands (1740) and the U.K. (1830) to settle in Natal. Adin and Sharon are proud to be Fourth Generation South Africans. In a peaceful and secure garden setting, three very spacious and elegant individually themed rooms, airconditioned, and furnished with Adin's fine handcrafted furniture, antiques and beautiful original paintings, prints and photographs. THE GUEST SUITES: All the guest rooms are separate from the main building. The three spacious, deluxe, airconditioned suites open directly onto a quiet large, private garden where establishment have over 600 rose bushes, and abundant birdlife. Relax under the vine-covered pergola with a glass of wine, or recline in your deckchair on the sunny well-manicured lawn. The grape-vines on the pergola outside the Queen Elizabeth and Double Delight suites is the ornamental type which ensures that during the heat of summer the rooms are well-shaded, but during the cold months the sun has free access to the rooms. Establishment chose ornamental grapes to avoid the danger of wasps being attracted to the fruit. Smokers : all host rooms and indoor areas are "non-smoking" but you may smoke outdoors.
The Queen Elizabeth Suite: This suite measures 6.5m x 5.5m plus bathroom 3m x 2.5m, and is named after the pink Queen Elizabeth Rose. The ceilings are of Spanish reed and are tied in the traditional manner. The beams are local Pine. The king-size bed was made by Adin from Canary Pine to his own design, as are the side tables and lamps. The mattress was custom made for us by the School for the Blind in Worcester.
The sleeper couch (day bed) is another one of Adin’s carpentry originals and is made from indigenous woods, basically Black Ironwood, Stinkwood, Yellowwood and Leadwood. To convert the couch into a bed, the backrest is simply lifted out. The cupboard and dressing table are early 20 th Century oak pieces that for many years were resident in Silverhurst, Constantia, and were inherited by Adin from his mother. On being restored they were found to have been painted green on top of white on top of a dark stain. The windows are made from Blackwood in the traditional Victorian style. The general furniture layout and size of the room was arrived at after going through some 600 guest comments as to what they would like and enjoy. There is no radio or television reception in the room - this, however, is available in the lounge as well as internet facilities.
The room has three different types of coffees, several different types of teas, and fresh milk is always available in the refrigerator. Sharon’s internationally acclaimed shortbread is renewed daily, as is the fruit, port, and muscadel. Muscadel is the sweet wine loved by early settlers. All these items are there for your enjoyment at no charge. The contents of the fridge are there to be enjoyed at no extra cost if consumed on the premises. There is an extensive range of local Aloe Ferox toiletries in the bathroom, to be enjoyed. Electric blankets are available at all times. However, establishment only put these on the beds during the colder months. The air conditioner is set for maximum coolness at 20C. All pictures are originals. The Dick Findlay paintings are two of a set of 10 game birds, commissioned by Adin’s father.

The Double Delight Suite: This suite measures 6.5m x 5.5m plus bathroom 3m x 2.5m, and is named after the deep pink and cream Double Delight Rose. The ceilings are of Spanish reed and are tied in the traditional manner. The beams are local Pine. The queen-size bed is made from Yellowwood and Kiaat to Adin’s design, as are the side tables which are made from Canary Pine and Cypress. One of the lamps is Yellowwood and the other Hard Pear. The mattress is the latest Sealy Posturepedic Plus which, establishment think, you will find a superb mattress.
The coffee table and side tables are made from Tambuti, a wood that grows north of Pretoria. This is an exceptionally hard and heavy wood giving off a slightly astringent aroma. Black tradition believes that by keeping a piece of this wood in your room, all flu’s, mosquitoes, etc., etc., including tokoloshes (gremlins), will be kept away. The chairs are genuine leather made by Coricraft of Cape Town. The Yellowwood kist at the foot of the bed was made by Adin from old beams extracted from the first building erected at Rhodes University in Grahamstown. The cupboard and dressing table are made from Kiaat, the top of the dressing table being Black Ironwood and Yellowwood. The windows are made from Blackwood in the traditional Victorian style. The three pictures of birds are by the renowned bird artist, Dick Findlay, and were specially commissioned by Adin’s father. The two water colours are by W.G. Goodbrand. The mountain pictured is Majuba made famous in the First Boer War. Adin’s ancestors owned a farm on one side of the mountain.

The Peace Suite: This suite measures 6m x 5.5m plus bathroom 3m x 2.5m, and is named after the well-known Peace Rose. The two single beds and dressing table are made from old Stinkwood and were manufactured in Pretoria at the turn of the 19 th Century. The coffee table was made early in the 19 th Century for the Cloetes of Cape Town and is in fact made from Stinkwood that was cut in the mountains behind Swellendam. The chairs are genuine leather and made by Coricraft of Cape Town. There is a television set in the room. South African TV stations 1, 2 and 3 are available at the touch of a button. For satellite TV please contact Adin so that he can set the required station for you from the lounge. There is also a TV available in the guest lounge as well as internet facilities. The pictures are original 1840 prints of the paintings by Cornwallis Harris, one of the earliest botanists and explorers into Southern Africa and author of the Book “Wild Sports in Southern Africa”. The remainder of this unique and valuable collection is still with Adin’s stepmother in Los Angeles.

The Homesleigh Suite: This suite is unique as it is the only one in the original Victorian cottage. It consists of a bedroom en suite, and a separate private lounge across the passage. There is a charming stoep (verandah) leading to the front garden, where one can relax and enjoy the mountain view, and watch the sunbirds which are very active in the flowering shrubs nearby the verandah. The comfortable bedroom measures 4.7m x 3.8m plus modern bathroom 3.8m x 2.4m with bath and separate walk-in shower. The rooms have very high wooden ceilings. The queen-sized bed and bedside tables are made from yellowwood, and the charming central light fitting is a Victorian antique. A comfortable armchair is provided, and there are original paintings on the walls. The room is fully air-conditioned with a hot/ cold air-conditioner. The room has a ceiling fan for those who prefer not to have the air-conditioning on in the summer. At night the window is secured by original shutters, ensuring privacy and safety.
The large separate private lounge measures 4.4m x 3.5m, has spacious cupboard facilities and a safe, and is furnished with a couch, two comfortable armchairs, coffee tables, a refrigerator, and tea and coffee making facilities.
