Auberge Bligny has a long history, beginning in the small village Bligny, France, just south of Beaune. Its story goes hand in hand with that of Franschhoek and starts approximately 300 years ago. 3oo years later the legacy of Jean Blignaut & the Huguenot’s continue in the exquisite Franschhoek (French corner) valley. Its history has been beautifully preserved throughout the village and its surrounds, with most of the Huguenot families wine farms still under their original French names. Added to that, it offers the finest in cuisine; award winning wines & wine farms; the Huguenot museum; the charm of the village’s coffee shops, galleries, curio shops, chocolaterie & fromagerie; & its breathtaking beauty.

Huguenot Jean Blignaut’s surname means “from Bligny”, a tiny village in France, hence the name of the Blignaut family’s Guesthouse: Auberge Bligny. The 1860 Victorian homestead (in the historic centre of the village) has been converted into a guesthouse over a decade ago and is owner managed. The rooms are furnished not with things new or ‘cottagy’, but with pieces reminding of days gone by in the house. It’s situated within easy walking distance of top South African restaurants; wine farms; fromagerie, chocolaterie, shops and galleries. A country breakfast is served – in winter around the fireplace and summer on the terrace overlooking the pool and mountains.
