About Parys and the Vredefort Dome: Parys is a small and vibrant town in South Africa. It lies on the banks of the Vaal River 120 km south of Johannesburg. Parys offers visitors a variety of attractions, ranging from browsing wonderful antique shops and art galleries to adventure sporting. Parys itself is situated inside the Vredefort Dome, which is the remains of an ancient crater. The crater was formed 2000 million years ago when a meteorite as big as Table Mountain struck the earth. The crater was about 90 km in diameter with the center of impact near Vredefort. The Vredefort Dome area received World Heritage Site status in August 2005.

Only an hours drive from JHB and nestled on the banks of the Vaal River near Parys, Carryblaire River Retreat embodies peace, tranquility and a sense of oneness with nature. With its own natural island and being a registered bird sanctuary the views offered at Carryblaire are breathtaking and some of the most beautiful in Africa. • VeldFlower & Serenity: Sit on the deck, and feel as though you are in the middle of the bush, with birds calling all around you, or listen and watch the mighty Vaal continue its journey through Africa...

• African Skies & River View: With vistas of the Vaal that inspire, these 2 cottage style rooms offer time and space for reflection...

All the bedrooms are decoratively inspired by elements from African nature. They have thatched roofs and mosquito nets and are scattered with antique pieces collected from Parys... All rooms have tea & coffee facilities and are fitted with fans and for the winter months with electric heaters and electric blankets...Rooms can be made up as either King Size or two single beds and have full en-suite bathrooms...
