Information on exchange rates of major
currencies and other money matters in Namibia.
Currency exchange rates are an average between a selling and a buying rates and an
average between banks in Windhoek.
The Namibian dollar was introduced in 1993 as a national currency and linked to
South African Rand (accepted anywhere in Namibia) on 1:1 basis.
The Namibian dollar has the following note denominations: 200, 100, 50, 20 and 10
dollars and the following coin denominations: 5 and 1 dollars and 50, 10 and 5 cents.

All major credit cards are
accepted in Namibia - VISA, MASTER CARD, AMERICAN EXPRESS AND DINERS CLUB (also in the
Government rest camps).

All foreign currency must be declared at the point of entry to Namibia. Import of
foreign currency is unlimited.
Banking hours: 9.00-15.30 Mondays to Fridays, 8.30-11.00 Saturdays.
