ACCOMMODATION: Donkin Country House offers guests 20 newly renovated, spacious and stylish en-suite rooms for single travellers, or for a "big" family on their way to a holiday destination. DINING: In the evening hosts offer the guests a real traditional South African cooked dinner by candlelight (inside or outside under a tree) with Karoo lamb. It's a set menu, consisting of a Karoo lamb dish, 3 vegetables, a salad and pudding. Local cuisine is superb and prepared with the area in mind.
BREAKFAST: In the morning the guests can enjoy a full English Breakfast. Breakfasts consists of filter coffee /different tee's/orange juice, cereals (with hot or cold milk), muesli (with a choice of yoghurts), toast with a choice of jams, cheese, and a lovely hot meal (egg, fried tomato, 2 strips of bacon, and a sausage).
LOCATION: Centrally situated, it's a walking distance from banking facilities and a shopping centre. The famous heart surgeon Dr. Chris Barnard is honoured in three historical buildings - all national museums. You may visit his humble home, the church where his father preached and where his mother played the organ.
ATTRACTIONS: In the Karoo National Park you will find a wide variety of birdlife and Karoo game and two of South Africa's most highly endangered species - the riverine rabbit and the black rhino. The fossil trail is a must see experience for each, and every explorer who want to enjoy the real adventure of "bossie routes", day walks and three-day hikes can make Donkin Country House their base.
