General background

The increasing number of new and returning clients urged Kgori Safaris to acquire larger quotas of dangerous and less common plains game species. Mozambique allows Kgori Safaris to enlarge the scope whilst still ensuring excellent quality and service on the same par as what operator has been offering to clients for the last ten years in Botswana.

Where the Zambezi River flows into the Indian Ocean, it creates the Zambezi Delta. The Reserva de Marromeu National Park with its surrounding hunting concession areas provides the discerning hunter with quality trophies and an exclusive old-world safari.

Unscathed by the twenty-four years of civil war, this swampland thrives with an abundance of buffalo, hippo, crocodile, elephant and less common antelope species, such as Livingston`s Suni, Red Duiker, Oribi, Lichtenstein Hartebeest and Sable.

Due to the difficult swamp terrain, this area was not part of the civil war operational theater; landmines are therefore not a threat.

Climate

The humidity is high, but the nights are generally cool 73F/24C. Midday temperatures can reach 104F/40C, therefore most of the hunting takes place early in the morning and late afternoon. With good planning, lots of water and caring staff, the heat is not a predominant factor to clients.

The Camp

The camp is situated on the banks of a tributary of the Zambezi, overlooking the crocodile and hippo-frequented waterway. Spacious huts built with local material and en-suite shower, toilet and hand basin provides all the comfort you need, to retire to after a tough day’s hunting. Huts are supplied with mosquito nets, electric lights etc. A satellite phone is available for outside communication.

Hunting season

Hunting season starts beginning July and lasts until the end of November.

Firearms

The Outfitter must arrange permits for his client, and will require the following details: at least 6 weeks in advance of the client’s arrival:
(Licenses can take up to 60 days to obtain from Maputo)

* A copy of your Visa
* A copy of your Passport
* Information on your rifle:
* Caliber
* Make
* Serial Number
* Ammunition is restricted to 100 rounds per weapon.
* Hunters are advised to take only double, bolt-action or single-shot rifles.
* It is also not advisable to take wildcat cartridges, unless the caliber head stamp on the cartridge case is the same as on the rifle.
* The rifle should be carried in a solid hard case. Ammunition and bolt must not be carried in the rifle case, but in your suitcase, which is checked through.

Health

Hunters are strongly advised to take every item of medication that they may need with them. It is important however, that every bit of medication, regardless of its status, (in other words, whether or not it is considered a controlled substance), be accompanied with a proper medical prescription, and export documents from the country of origin. Mozambique’s officials take this very seriously, and the list of medication should similarly be submitted to the Outfitter 6 weeks in advance.

Travel

American and European passport holders need a visa for Mozambique.

Clients will travel to Johannesburg International Airport, South Africa, from where they will be chartered to Beira, Mozambique. Here, customs will be cleared. From there it’s a short hop to the camp.

Very important; Please pack your clothing into a soft tog-type bag. The weight of your baggage (excluding your rifles) should not exceed 10 kilograms. Luggage must be kept lightweight and to the minimum. Small airplanes do not have roof racks. Clients will be advised on the best options of established charters to use

C.I.T.E.S/Trophy import permits

It is the client’s responsibility to arrange trophy Import permits for the country of Trophy destination before trophies can be shipped from Mozambique.
