B&B in Montagu, Western Cape, South Africa. Malherbe Guest House is a National Monument and
was built in 1859. The house has been lovingly restored and offers 6 en-suite
rooms, 4 with private entrance and patio or verandah as accommodation. Rooms
have a fan, a heater for the winter, hospitality tray and hairdryer, garden
rooms have TV with MNet. The guest house also has a spacious guest lounge with
honesty bar. Enjoy a complementary glass Montagu Muscadel. The guest lounge
overlooks the lovely secluded garden with beautiful views of the Langeberg
Mountains. Take a refreshing dip in the swimming pool or laze in the shade in
a comfortable lounge chair. In the morning a scrumptious breakfast (with
homemade bread and fresh orange juice) is served on the terrace under the
vines overlooking the garden or indoors.

Malherbe guest house is perfectly located in Montagu, a historical village
ideally situated on the legendary Route 62, winding through the Breede River
Valley, halfway between Cape Town and Oudtshoorn, and above the Garden Route.
Rooms in the main house (room 1 & 2): Enjoy the atmosphere of CAPE
DUTCH living. Rooms have high ceilings (cool in summer) and wooden flooring.
These rooms are furnished with antiques.
Room 1: Main house (front side of the house): Spacious bedroom with 2
single beds. Very spacious bathroom with free-standing Victorian bath,
separate shower and double vanity unit.
Room 2: Main house (back side of the house): Bedroom with queen size
bed. Spacious bathrooms with shower and (small) bath
Standard garden rooms (room 3 & 4): Complete privacy with separate
entrance and private patio. Furnished with a mix of antiques and contemporary
African touches. Spacious bedroom with queen size bed and TV (M-Net). Bathroom
with shower.
Deluxe garden rooms (room 5 & 6): Pamper yourself with privacy and a
luxurious room furnished in contemporary African style. Imagine French doors
leading onto a private verandah. Bedroom with extra length twin beds (which
convert into a king-sized bed), bar fridge, fireplace, electronic safe.
Walk-in closet/dressing room with ample space for your luggage. Spacious
bathroom with large walk-in shower, bath, separate toilet and double vanity
unit.
Facilities: In the morning a full breakfast is served, either outside on
the terrace under the vines of indoors in the cosy breakfast room. Breakfast
is a feast with a variety of fresh fruits, yoghurt, home-made bread, freshly
squeezed orange-juice, cold meats and cheeses, eggs prepared on order. Enjoy a
dip in host swimming pool in the lush garden. There are secluded and shady
corners where you can relax, read a book or sample the Montagu wine. For those
wishing to bask in the Montagu sunshine, there are plenty of sun lounges.
After all, this part of the Western Cap is renowned for its fabulous climate.
Museums
Joubert House: Long Street. The town's oldest local dwelling, it
epitomises the lifestyle of the late 19th century and includes an indigenous
medicinal herb garden.
Old Mission church: The old neo-gothic Mission Church dates back to
1907 and displays a collection of valuable furniture, paintings and objects
d'art from Montagu. Herbal remedies and herbal products are also on sale here.
Hot Mineral Springs: Montagu's springs' healing powers have enjoyed
renown for over 200 years. The water is pumped continuously from the eye of
the spring. An open-ended flow system through the complex ensures that all the
system's water is constantly replenished. Open for day-visitors every day.
