Whale Watchers Inn is a guest house situated in one of South Africa's most beautiful and unspoilt seaside resorts, Witsand - overlooking the magnificent San Sebastian Bay. The Inn is situated ± 100 metres from the beach and is within walking distance of the mouth of the Breede River. As Witsand is only a 3 hour drive from Cape Town and 2 hours from George. Just half way between Cape Town and Knysna, it is a welcome stop on your Garden Route tour. From here guests are within easy reach of the Malgas Pont, De Hoop Nature Reserve, Swellendam, the Bontebok Park, Barrydale, Ashton, Robertson Wine Route and Montague before moving onto the greater Garden Route area. Witsand has one of the largest collections of whales during the whaling season which is from June to the end of November. Guests can watch from the comfort of their room or the balcony of the guest house, as the whales bring their babies into the breakers right in front of us.

The Breede River starts out at Witsand and is one of the largest, most navigable rivers in South Africa. It supports an amazing variety of fish and birdlife. The wealth of fish in the Breede River naturally attracts fish-eating birds such as the majestic fish eagle, the osprey, fish owl and kingfisher. The area is also home to an amazing variety of other birds and water birds. 35 kms inland from Witsand is the small historic village of Malagas. Malagas is particularly famous for its "man-drawn" ferry ("die pont") across the Breede River - a nostalgic relic of a slower, quieter era. This service began in 1860, current model, 1952 - and still carries people, vehicles and livestock across the river every day. The area is home to some of nature's most spectacular floral displays, including proteas, ericas and reeds. These flowers are best viewed on foot along some of the best hiking trails in the country.
